Written Schemes of Examination
The owner of every compressed air system (over a certain size) needs a Written Scheme of Examination, by law.
Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000/128
"The user of an installed system and owner of a mobile system shall not operate the system or allow it to be operated unless he has a written scheme for the periodic examination, by a competant person, of parts as listed in Regulation 8"
Regulation 8 Written Scheme of Examination
Do you know the safe operating limits of your pressure systems?
Under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000, users and owners of pressure systems are required to demonstrate that they know the safe operating limits (principally pressure and temperature) of their systems, and that they are safe under those conditions. They need to ensure that a suitable written scheme of examination is in place before the system is operated. They also need to ensure that the system is actually examined in accordance with the written scheme of examination.
To ensure compliance with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000/128 approved code of practice which has superseded the Pressure Systems and Transportable Gas Containers Regulations S12169 (1989). A Written Scheme must be produced and endorsed by a Competent Person who is an incorporated or a Chartered Engineer. The Written Scheme identifies ‘what’ has to be examined, ‘when’ it has to be examined and ‘how’ it has to be examined. Periodic examination then takes place as required by Regulation 9.
